Engaging Students at Wageningen University & Research

LoginEKO visits the Netherlands, sharing insights in sustainable agriculture and engaging with the next generation of agricultural experts from WUR.

In early September we visited Wageningen University & Research (WUR), where we shared insights from LoginEKO’s journey in sustainable agriculture.

Our visit to the Netherlands began at the ERF farm, a fellow member of the Global Network of Lighthouse Farms.

Here, we explored organic potato production in various farming setups including strip cropping. The visit coincided with a workshop from The Lighthouse Farm Academy, focusing on developing business plans for organic production, which provided a practical context for our discussions.

We had the chance to walk through the farm’s diverse cropping strips, which showcased a sustainable rotation system integrating crops like oats, potatoes, and pumpkins.

Over two days, we continued our visit to the Netherlands with lectures to 90 Master’s students in the Organic Farming program at WUR—the Organic Farming group on Tuesday and the Farming System Ecology group on Wednesday.

Each session included a 45-minute presentation followed by a 45-minute question-and-answer period. This format provided an in-depth look at LoginEKO’s model of sustainable food production.

The students were particularly interested in how we manage nutrient cycles and our 100% livestock-free approach to organic production.

Their enthusiasm and thoughtful questions made for great conversations on increasing the sustainability and resilience of food systems. It was fantastic to see such a balanced mix of 50% Dutch and 50% international students, bringing diverse views into the discussion..

The lecture piqued the students’ curiosity, leading several to explore internship opportunities at LoginEKO.
