While combines finish the late crops, autumn sowing has begun with oats, peas, wheat, flax, and alfalfa, laying the groundwork for next year’s crops.
While the combines are still working on some of our late crops, preparations for the new season are already in full swing. This year, we kicked off with alfalfa and flax, setting the pace for the rest of the autumn season.
There’s only a small window between finishing harvest and starting autumn sowing. Our teams move quickly to prepare the soil, making sure it has the right structure and moisture for seeds to settle in.
One of the lessons we’ve learned over the years was not to rush seedbed preparation. A well-prepared field ensures better germination, and reduces weed pressure later on.
Flax is always a bit of a curiosity in our crop rotation. We often get asked: “Why sow it in winter?” The moisture in autumn and winter season helps flax establish more evenly, reducing pressure from weeds, and making it a better fit for our crop rotation. If you want the full story, we’ve explained the details here.
This year’s sowing feels special because we’re sowing mostly with our own farm-saved seed: oat, flax, alfalfa, chickpea, peas and wheat. A few years ago, sourcing organic seeds in Serbia was a real challenge—expensive, scarce, and often a compromise on quality. That’s why we decided to take matters into our own hands.

Not only does this help us adapt varieties to our conditions, but every seed and every crop will also be fully traceable thanks to The Origin, our traceability platform. This means that from seed to silo, anyone will be able to follow the full story of our crops.
So while it might look like we’re still wrapping up one season, in reality the next one is already underway.
